Honouring Intangible Wisdom, Empowering Transformation Today
The Afrika Centre for Intangible Phenomena Studies (ACIPS) is a registered Non-Profit Organisation 2025/676740/08 (previously 2022/319175/08), headquartered in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Conceived in 2018 by Founder Bernard Nyarko Owusu-Sekyere during his stay in Harare, Zimbabwe, ACIPS embodies the vision of rediscovering and applying ancestral African wisdom for contemporary transformation.
Anchored in the Akan concept of Sankofa—"go back and fetch it"—ACIPS stands as a beacon for restoring lost knowledge and values to pave a self-driven path of development for African people.
In February 2022, ACIPS became a legal entity thanks to the dedicated efforts of Mr. Lulekile Isaac Magazolo, an educator and former librarian; and Mr. Sizwe Bongathini, an Africanist, who now serve as Trustees and Guardians of the Centre’s aspirations, and the Founder, Mr. Bernard Owusu-Sekyere. Due to lacking female representation, there will be future amendment to include females in the organisation's legal status.
In 2024, the Centre’s momentum surged forward when Madam Ntombi Mabindisa embraced the Managerial role with profound commitment. Her dedication rekindled ACIPS’s operations, and her name now graces the "Nanahenewaa-Wangari-Ntombikayise ePublications”.
ACIPS welcomed several esteemed members:
In his landmark 2017 article, Bernard Owusu-Sekyere declared: “Knowledge is indeed, the spirit and character that shape revolutions...”. ACIPS advances Afrocentric and holistic knowledge—inner and outer, tangible and intangible—as a path for authentic transformation that resonates with the self-determined evolution of African people.
The Centre addresses gaps left by institutions that neglect the intangible dimensions of African wisdom, proposing bold strides into these uncharted research territories.
ACIPS aspires to be a lasting legacy for Africans everywhere—including the Diaspora—and a bridge to the rest of the world, illuminating the vast horizons of Africa’s spiritual and cosmological systems. The Centre envisions extending African knowledge into space and galactic realms long familiar to our ancestors.
